Jessie
Dropping the weight and just being me
“Mistakes are so important. That's where great stuff comes from. In fact the most important stuff comes from messing up.”
Jessie's MA journey brought the scattered parts of her creative life together, and left her caring far less about what other people think.
Jessie Curry came to Make Happen feeling, in her own words, “quite scattered.”
She had plenty of creative energy. What held her back was harder to name: a set of barriers she had quietly built for herself, most of them about how she thought other people saw her.
By the end of the MA, something had changed.
Waking Up
The shift didn’t happen all at once. Jessie describes a handful of moments along the way when things switched, when it felt like she “almost woke up.”
The first came on the Possibility bootcamp. Being immersed with a room full of people was intense, and at one point she wanted to run away.
Then she made a decision. If she couldn’t run, she might as well go through whatever everyone was going through.
Something shifted. She came away feeling lighter, as though she had put down a heavy weight she hadn’t realised she was carrying.
Being Messy
Jessie has always been a ‘messy’ person, and for a long time she was a little embarrassed about it.
Now she sees mess differently. Mistakes aren’t something to hide. They’re where the most important work comes from.
“Mistakes are so important. That’s where great stuff comes from. In fact the most important stuff comes from messing up.”
Just Getting On With It
One of the biggest surprises was how easy the hard things turned out to be.
Instead of waiting for the right moment, Jessie started asking for what she needed, committing, and just getting in action, no matter what the outcome. No more pretending. No more trying to make things look special.
Gathered Together
The parts of Jessie that once felt scattered now feel gathered into something more coherent. She cares much less about what other people think, and much more about simply being herself.
And that, she has discovered, is okay.
